How life has matured beyond the explicit world. It has been known throughout the dawn of man until now isamaras.wordpress.com/2010/08/03/who-invented-porn/, that civilisations, cultures and communities have expressed and explored body art en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art manifesto using statues and paintings. Within the ancient duration nude imagery was viewed and portrayed as a form of art that was intriguing, unusual and extraordinary right up to being portrayed as being depicted and defined as a deed that was erotic, filthy and explicit.

With this in mind I seek to explore the media effects that came about to change perceptions and the introduction of mass media to being a persuasive medium. There has been a drastic change between generations by which the media has placed a portal bridge of refining their persuasive messages, for example way back in time audiences were persuaded to naked imagery by usage of magazines such as HUSTLER en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hustler , to now the message being disseminated to websites, television, cellular phones and the internet at large.
It has been the fast growing industry even since its dawn, were media has found its way to make profit out it, such as selling previously recorded videos, kamasutra http://what-is-kamasutra.com/ books, newspaper and magazines advertisement, with the hope of creating a demand to their audiences. It has since become to being “the in thing” were individual use this content as reference to gain experience with the aim of being educated/ informed about it.
In a nutshell, not even parental advisory is considered; it is now regarded as one of the ethical rule of broadcasting commerce. This is only a method of preventing any lawsuits for the actual viewer. Why do we think the subject called Life Orientation was introduced in schools? Learners turn to explore this content through various forms of mass media without their parents offering guidance and knowledge.
I believe it is in our personal needs to stimulate certain hormones in our bodies (such as androgen) based on how you do it. It is not part of our everyday knowledge to understand such but the outcome have saved many relationships as an enhancement of some sort come to think about it..
ReplyDeleteThank you Mr Owen. Yes I agree that it is a sort of human needs but the bigger factor is how you do it, meaning at which level of degree does one engage in it for personal stimulation. It has also caused many frictions within relationships as some people are not as much as exposed to it than others, then it seems unnatural and explicit because of how it is portrayed by the media being disgusting and erotic.
ReplyDeleteI tend to think that as explicit and disgusting as it may described, the choice to view nude imagery, whether as body art or pre-recorded videos among others, is fuelled by a number of factors. A curious mind, the need to satisfy ones desires, and commonly of late, the accepted norm are the main reasons behind peoples choices. As a measure to not leave knowledge at what one concludes for oneself, the introduction of Life Orientation in schools, I believe is to serve the purpose of educating on what society views as normal and a part of daily lives.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mpumi. I strongly agree with you on the part of a curious mind and having the edge need to explore other factors to what is stereotypically viewed as. But on the other hand we need to look at the bigger aspect to which is disseminated messages that needed to be justified from what the society views and the newly discovered way of disgusting and explicit perspective. Now my question is that, would that the world be what it is now to how it was before without the invention of technology and mass media??
ReplyDeleteIn terms of the growth of mass media, I think it would be rather immoral not to cover such to a particular audience or intended market based on the stigma it can create..
ReplyDeleteI came across an article based on the plea to stop rape in our country but this rose from it:www.sowetanlive.co.za/sowetan/archive/2009/06/23/let-no-one-on-either-side-of-the-vuvuzela-divide-pose-naked now if this was not covered I'm not sure dat some of us would be moved by explicit image.
It is because of mass media that the audience is exposed to such messages. I agree that in the eyes of another person posing nude would be inappropraite and I also take offence because for such a sensitive topic as rape, it seems in a way that they are promoting erotic imagery which leads themselves to being vulnerable to rape. This also goes back with times we live in, in ancient times women would go around with their lives half naked and rape wasn't in excistence, but now it is about self-respect and security reasons. It is in these times that rape has taken on a high because being exposed to explicit imagery on a website may not be enough for a sexually striving individual thus having an excuse to rape.
